Pupil Premium Strategy

At Bishop Martin, we are committed to ensuring provision is made for all pupils, and that teaching and learning opportunities meet the needs of all pupils and allows them to make progress and achieve.

What is Pupil Premium?

Pupil Premium is extra money from the government to help schools support eligible children with their learning and give them the best possible opportunities.

At Bishop Martin, we want every child to feel included, grow in confidence and achieve their best.

Who is it for?

The funding supports children who:

  • Qualify for certain income-based free school meals, or have qualified in the past six years.

  • Are in local authority care.

  • Have previously been in care, including children adopted from care.

There is also separate funding for eligible children from armed forces families.

How does it help children?

The money is paid to the school. It can help provide:

  • High-quality teaching and extra help with learning.

  • Support with confidence, wellbeing and attendance.

  • Opportunities to take part in clubs, visits and other experiences.

We consider each child’s needs carefully. Receiving Pupil Premium does not mean your child is finding learning difficult.

How can I check?

Please contact the school office. We can help you check whether your child qualifies, even if they already receive a free school lunch.

Not all free school meal entitlements bring extra funding to the school, so it is always worth asking.
