Year 5 2017-18
The Year 5 class teacher is Mr.McNamara I am looking to a year full of enjoyment and learning. I sincerely want the best for your child and I will strive to achieve this. I have lots of enriching, varied learning opportunities planned for this year and you will be able to read all about what we get up to in Year 5 on this class page. Enjoy Year 5 and I am looking forward to working with you.
Just a few reminders that you need to know for the year:
· We are actively encouraging children to read as much as possible for pleasure at home. Please help encourage this by ensuring that reading book bags are in school every day with their reading book and reading record. Children will be given the opportunity to change their book within the school day when needed. Please listen to your child read as much as possible and make a comment where necessary in their record if they struggled on anything in particular so we can support them. In Year 5, we expect the children to also make a comment, so that we know that the children are understanding their book. When your child reads at least 5 out of 7 nights a week they will get a sticker which will go towards their Bronze, Silver and Gold reading certificate awards!
· We will be doing PE on a Monday and swimming on a Thursday. Please ensure that your child has the correct kit in on these days, including appropriate pumps/trainers, and that all items of clothing are named clearly. PE is compulsory and all children are expected to join in. For swimming, your children will need their swimwear, towel and goggles are very helpful!
· Your child will receive English and Maths homework each week on a Friday. This is expected to be brought back by the following Tuesday. Children will also be given spellings fortnightly.
Please do not hesitate to come and ask any questions or with any issues; myself or the teaching assistants for our class. For any maths queries, please make sure that you or your child speaks to Mrs Cranney.
Thank you for your support.
