School of Sanctuary

Bishop Martin CE Primary School is committed to becoming a School of Sanctuary.

A School of Sanctuary (SoS) is a school that is

'committed to being a safe and welcoming place for all students and their families. It is a school that helps its students, staff and wider community understand what it means to be seeking sanctuary and to extend a welcome to everyone as equal, valued members of the school community. It is a school that is proud to be a place of safety and inclusion for all.'

There are three principles to becoming a School of Sanctuary:

  • We learn what it means to be seeking sanctuary
  • We take positive action to embed concepts of welcome, safety and inclusion within our school and the wider community.
  • We share our achievements and are proud!

We began our journey in 2022, and it is our ambition to be a welcoming, understanding, safe and happy place for pupils and families from all parts of the world whatever their circumstances. We aim to share and celebrate the wealth of cultures, langauges and experiences that have brought our communities together in one school family.

We are committed to welcoming everyone seeking sacntuary and to removing the barriers that might stand between pupils and families and a happy, caring and supportive school experience.
