Year 5 Remote Learning
Welcome to the Y5 Remote Learning webpage. Please see links below that your child can use to access our remote learning curriculum.
Seesaw
Seesaw is a digital platform that we use to share work between school and home and a way of teachers sharing learning in the classroom. As part of our remote learning, teachers will be uploading tasks for pupils to complete. There is a useful Seesaw Parent Guide that can help parents understand how the site works.
Mathematics
MyMaths is an online programme that gives lessons and activities for children to complete. Please make sure to work through the lesson first using the numbers down the side and then complete each part of the task. Your teacher can see how you are doing and reset tasks if you need more practise. You will have been assigned tasks to complete and will see these when you log in. https://www.mymaths.co.uk/
English
myON is a fantastic digital library with over a thousand eBooks for your child to choose from. These books are linked to the Accelerated Reader (AR) programme that we already use in school, allowing your child to select age and ability appropriate books through their ZPD. This can be linked to your child’s AR account when first logging in, using the ‘Connect Now’ option located at the top of the home page. Please see this video for further instruction.
Spelling Shed is a spelling practice website and app with digital games and activities, with a facility for them to test themselves to check their own learning. Your child’s weekly spellings will be loaded into the online platform and assigned each Friday. Over the course of the week, they can then use the Spelling Shed app or website to play a variety of games and activities to help them learn these. Their spelling test will take place as usual each Friday.
Letter-join is a cursive handwriting scheme being used both in school and remotely, including handwriting activities, online games and step by step instructional videos which model the process of letter formation and joined handwriting. Your child’s handwriting slot will be timetabled using the daily announcement on Microsoft Teams so that children know when to use it. They will also be instructed which part to access and to focus on.
ReadTheory is an online reading comprehension program with a huge library of reading content, both fiction and non-fiction. ReadTheory's adaptive style promotes improvement by automatically meeting learners at their own, individual attainment levels. After completing an initial assessment, children are able to complete reading quizzes and achieve 'knowledge points' to move through different levels. Your teacher can also track your progress and see how you are doing on each quiz.
Science
BBC Bitesize is a great website to continue learning scientific facts and developing scientific skills. There are lots of quizzes, interactive games and videos.
During the Spring 1 half-term, Year 5 are learning about Earth and Space. This link will take you to the page.
French
Language Angels is an online language programme that gives interactive games for children to practise their French skills. All pupils have an individual login and your teacher will be able to view the games you have been playing.
If a whole class is self isolating, we are using Microsoft Teams to facilitate these lessons. Your child has had a log in sent home on paper.
